Judeo-Arabic text, which means it is written in Arabic but using Hebrew characters. Probable provenance is Andalusia. 13th-14th centuries.

This fragment is from a book of medicine by Isaac ben Hunain ben Isaac (d. 910) whose name appears in large letters beneath the four columns on the upper part of the page. These columns contain the name and symptoms of the illness. He was the son of Hunain ben Isaac, known in the Latin field of medical as Johannitius. Both father and son were important translators of philosophical and scientific works from Greek and Syriac to Arabic.

This fragment demonstrates how the transmission of science in the Middle Ages could be done in rather unlikely ways and languages.
