Yentl is a Jewish girl who lives with her elderly father, the rabbi of a town in Eastern Europe in the early twentieth century. Yentl is very interested in studies but, at that time higher education is banned to women. His father allowed him to study the scriptures on the sly. When his father dies suddenly, Yentl has an occurrence of a haircut, and pretend to be a man to study in a Talmudic school. The multifaceted Barbra Streisand got the recognition, not only for his performance of the young Jewish, but also as the first movie ever produced, directed, written and performed by a woman. The film won the Oscar for best soundtrack adapted and Golden Globe for Best Director.
