Besalú has opened a series of lectures with the title "Orígenes judíos del cristianismo" (The Jewish origins of Christianity), held by Mario Saban between October and November 2007.

For those who are interested in cartography, the Arca Llegat Jueu organises a series of lectures in Palma de Mallorca this October, that deals with the evolution of this science in different historical periods.

Exhibitions

Different topics in Girona, Ávila and Ribadavia

The exhibition Coexistencia has recently been opened in Girona. It shows a selection of photographs by Andreu Sitjes, product of a journey to Israel in the summer of 2006. The artist was interested in the faces of people from different cultures and religions, and listened to their voices. All of them he asked the same question: "What means Israel to you?" Each photograph comes with the answer he got in each case, and which led him to the conclusion that there is not a single reality, but different ones, depending on the eyes that behold it. At the Museum of the History of the Jews, from October 19th to December 31st.

On the other hand, the exhibition of photographs Esencia de Sefarad continues its tour of the cities of the Network: From October 11th to November 25th it can be visited at the Sala de las Carnicerías in Ávila.
This exhibition is accompanied by a magnificent catalogue, published by Almuzara

Finally, the exhibition Filatelia Sefardí closed on September 30th at the Centro de Información Xudía de Galicia, in Ribadavia, having received more than 800 visitors.

A visit to the new museum of the Jewish Community of Madrid

September 26th, Madrid

The board of presidents of the Network of Spanish Jewish Quarters, which is formed by the cities of Jaén, León and Hervás, held a meeting in Madrid on September 26th in order to discuss the main lines of action during this new legislative period. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain, which generously put their premises at our disposal.

At the end of the meeting, the delegation of the Network visited the new museum of the Jewish Community of Madrid. The museum has on show a collection of documents, photographs, letters, books and objects that testify the history experienced by this community over the years, and also mirrors, as their president, Jacobo Israel pointed out, the changing fate of liberty of conscience and religion in Spain.

The museum was opened last February, coinciding with the 90th anniversary of the first synagogue of Madrid, built in the Príncipe Street in 1917.
